The following tips will be of help to you if you inadvertently break, chip or knock out any teeth:
Breaking or chipping a tooth:
• Rinse your mouth using warm water
• Apply a cold compress – this will help reduce swelling
• Call an urgent care dentist
• If possible, bring broken-off parts with you to your dental care visit
Knocked-out tooth:
• Handle your tooth by the root only
• Do not rinse it – leave all tissue intact
• Reinsert it into its socket if you can, and hold it there if possible
• Alternatively, store the tooth in saline or milk so it doesn’t become dry. If necessary, keep it between your gums and cheek to keep it moist.
